Backpack tips for the new term
It's Back to School time, so here are five quick tips when packing a backpack:
1. The weight of a full backpack shouldn't exceed 10-15% of the carrier's body-weight.
2. Leave items such as text books, stationery and Chromebooks at school, whenever possible.
3. Ensure both shoulder straps are used, as well as a chest-strap if the backpack has one.
4. Adjust straps to position the backpack high - not hanging low, which may strain the lower spine.
5. Position heavier items close to the back of the backpack so that the weight is closer to the child's body, keeping the centre of gravity balanced and reducing strain on the shoudlers and back.
