Your health is important to us and we want to help you onto the right path for the best results.

Is chiropractic care covered under ACC or health insurance?

Yes. If you’ve been injured and it meets ACC requirements, ACC does cover a portion of your care (a surcharge applies). There’s no need for a GP referral as we can provide the paperwork and take care of the claim for you.

Some health insurance policies do cover chiropractic care. It’s best to check directly with your insurance provider, or if Southern Cross is your provider, we can check for you and take care of any claim as we’re Southern Cross Easy-Claim providers.

Will you make a referral if I need it?

Yes. Our sole focus is helping you achieve your health goals. If your chiropractor determines you would benefit from other treatments, or diagnostic imaging (ultrasound etc), we’ll offer recommendations and referrals to a GP, or our network of practitioners.

Are x-rays required for everyone?

No. Depending on your health situation, your chiropractor will determine if they’re necessary during your initial examination and consultation. X-Rays are only taken if needed and help provide a comprehensive diagnosis and ensure an effective care plan is provided for you. We’re the only chiropractic clinic in Hastings to have on-site X-rays, and the only chiropractic clinic in Hawke’s Bay to offer free spinal X-rays to our patients.

If required, X-rays allows us to thoroughly examine the condition of the spine including:

  • abnormalities

  • degeneration that may have occurred over time

  • postural changes and spinal alignment

  • fractures

  • underlying disease processes that require us to refer you for other suitable imaging, investigation or treatment

  • anomalies that may mean we can’t adjust certain areas or that modifications are needed to the way your chiropractor will adjust your spine.

Can I see a chiropractor if I’m pregnant?

Absolutely. Not only is it safe to visit a chiropractor during your pregnancy, it’s also highly beneficial for you and your baby. Dr. Feel Good Chiropractic has special pregnancy pillows that allow you to comfortably lie down, even until birth, and our adjusting techniques are gentle.

Will I be adjusted on my first visit?

Perhaps. Everyone’s situation is different and we’ll assess your needs when you visit us. X-rays, scans and test results often require analysis before we start care.

How long will it take until I feel better?

The number of adjustments varies with each patient and their individual health goals. Some patients experience almost instant relief. Many patients sense progress within a week or two of regular visits. Visits become less frequent as your spine stabilises. In chronic cases, complete healing can take time. We’d love to see you visit us for regular adjustments to assist in a long-term health, yet we never pressure you. You’re in charge.

Can I see a chiropractor if I’ve had surgery?

Yes. We’ll sit down and talk more about your health first, but in most cases it’s perfectly fine and can often aid in a faster recovery. If your surgery was back or neck related, your chiropractor will avoid the surgically modified areas of your spine. Surgery often causes instability above or below the surgery site. These are the areas that would be the focus of your care ensuring a healthier, more stable spine in general. We may check your spine seated, or use a specially designed table which lowers you to a lying position without having to manoeuvre yourself on and off a chiropractic table, and/or use additional pillows to support you to make you feel comfortable.

Can patients with Osteoporosis get chiropractic care?

Yes. Our Dr. Feel Good chiropractors consider the unique circumstances of each patient. There are many ways to adjust the spine, including using a gentle adjusting tool, called an Activator. The technique selected will be best suited to your age, size and health.

Will the adjustments hurt?

Most times a spinal adjustment itself will not hurt at all. In fact a great sense of relief is often experienced. On some occasions it may feel like someone is momentarily pressing on a bruise.

There are now many techniques available to adjust the spine. At Dr. Feel Good we pride ourselves on utilising gentle techniques that our patients love. Your chiropractor will explain the modern techniques we offer and is happy to cater to your individual needs and preferences.

Can I adjust
myself?

No. Some people can make their joints ‘pop’, but that’s not an adjustment! Worse, damage can occur by mobilising a joint with weakened muscles and ligaments. Adjustments are specific and take years to master. Even chiropractors themselves see a chiropractor for their own chiropractic care.

Can I bring my baby/kids to my appointment?

Absolutely. We’re a family practice, so we welcome your whole family. We have toys in our reception and adjustment rooms, and our Chiropractic Assistants are great with kids and love the opportunity for a baby cuddle. We also have a change table and you’re welcome to stay and feed your baby after an adjustment.
